Jeanneau builds sailing and motor boats, while the Sun Odyssey family is particularly well represented in our charter catalogue: the 410, 440 and 490. Tests of the 440 and 490 highlighted side decks that slope down to cockpit level, avoiding a climb over high cockpit coamings. However, the routes around those two models are not identical. Compare cabin numbers, access from the helm to the saloon, sail-furling systems and equipment. An older Sun Odyssey does not necessarily have the deck arrangements of a newer generation.
What the reviewers found
Cruising World's tests of the 440 and 490 praised movement around the deck. However, the shape of the 440's furling mainsail and other sails on that test boat impressed the author less than the hull's potential. The assessment concerns the models and configurations tested in 2018, not every Jeanneau yacht.
