Hanse

Sail controls at the helm and a choice of cabins

The Hanse 418 is a Judel/Vrolijk-designed sailing yacht built in Greifswald, Germany. The model test describes a self-tacking jib and sail-control lines led to the helms. Cabin and head variants also change life aboard: an additional cabin and storage space are not equivalent choices. The catalogue includes the 458 and 508 alongside the 418, allowing comparison of crew capacity. Check each boat's sails, winches and draft; additional downwind equipment is not automatically fitted to every Hanse.

What the reviewers found

Cruising World's Mark Pillsbury praised steering feedback and a tidy deck in his Hanse 418 test. He would choose additional winches for a downwind sail. The boat was sailed in light winds on Chesapeake Bay, so the test does not establish results in tougher conditions or the qualities of other Hanse models.

Before you charter

What is bareboat charter?

You charter the boat and provide your own suitably qualified skipper and crew. Qualification requirements vary by boat, operator and sailing area. We help check your documents and the charter terms for your chosen boat.

What will your charter cost?

The search price is the boat's charter price. The boat page lists known mandatory charges, optional extras and a separate security deposit. Review the complete offer for your dates; any costs still awaiting confirmation must be checked before booking.

How does a charter request work?

  1. Choose your dates, departure base and boat.
  2. Review the charter price, charges, deposit and qualification requirements.
  3. Send your request. Yachting Planet checks availability and terms before confirming the charter.
