Excess

Twin aft helms and a closer connection to the deck

The Excess 11 is a roughly 37-foot cruising catamaran with two helm positions at the aft quarters. This differs from a high, separate flybridge, making visibility and contact with the cockpit crew worth checking. The catalogue also includes the Excess 14 and 12; a test of the 11 alone does not define their character. Compare jib or genoa versions, cabin layout and the presence of a Code 0 on the actual boat. An additional sail used in a test should not become an assumed part of every charter inventory.

What the reviewers found

Yachting Monthly's Theo Stocker praised the Excess 11's responsive helm but noted that the genoa telltales were harder to see from the windward helm. Handling the Code 0 required crew assistance. Solent conditions did not allow behaviour in large waves to be tested; this assessment concerns the particular test boat.

Before you charter

What is bareboat charter?

You charter the boat and provide your own suitably qualified skipper and crew. Qualification requirements vary by boat, operator and sailing area. We help check your documents and the charter terms for your chosen boat.

What will your charter cost?

The search price is the boat's charter price. The boat page lists known mandatory charges, optional extras and a separate security deposit. Review the complete offer for your dates; any costs still awaiting confirmation must be checked before booking.

How does a charter request work?

  1. Choose your dates, departure base and boat.
  2. Review the charter price, charges, deposit and qualification requirements.
  3. Send your request. Yachting Planet checks availability and terms before confirming the charter.
